Our first fundraiser took place this past Saturday morning. We held a breakfast with the Easter Bunny for everyone in town. We had a great turn out and raised around $1400! With our 50/50 match from Let Them Be Kids we have $2800 in purchasing power for new playground and fitness park equipment. Wow! It was a wonderful morning, and lots of smiles (although some tears as well) from kids when they got to meet the Easter Bunny. Here are a few of my favorite shots from the morning:
In other news, we currently have 264 volunteers signed up for our Build Day on August 6th! This is incredible! A big thank you to all who have signed up so far, and if you haven't had a chance to register yet, please do! Many hands make light work, and everyone will have a job to do on Build Day to be successful. Just click the link on the right hand side of this page and fill in your information, that way you will receive bi-weekly updates on our progress until the big day arrives.
I also wanted to make mention of the fact that not only has Twillingate been selected to receive a Let Them Be Kids Helping Hands Award, we have also been chosen as one of only 4 communities across Canada that will have their Build Day featured in a documentary that will be screened at the Toronto Film Festival as well as the Sundance Film Festival. The documentary, Let Them Be Kids: Building Playgrounds, Inspiring Hope will highlight our efforts throughout the coming months as we fund-raise and rally volunteers to help us build a new playground and fitness park for our town. What a great moment for Twillingate! We should be proud of our little town! We have accomplished so much so far, and the best is yet to come!

Easter Bunny Breakfast
We will be hosting breakfast with the Easter Bunny this Saturday, April 23rd starting at 7:30am at the United Church Hall. All funds raised will be used for our playground fund. This is our first fundraiser for our playground project, so let's all make sure it is a great one! Breakfast will be $5 for adults and $3 for children. Pictures with the Easter Bunny will be $5 for a 5x7 print. Hope to see everyone there!
Also, the recycling depot has set up an account for the playground. We will be holding a recycling blitz in a couple of weeks, but in the mean time, if you wish to drop recyclables off and donate them to the playground account it would be much appreciated! Every dollar counts, and remember that every $1 donated equals $2 in buying power for new playground and fitness park equipment!
If you haven't done so already, don't forget to click the link on the right hand side of this page and volunteer to help on Build Day (August 6th) we will need all the help we can get! We will not only need people to help build the playground, but also people to help with children's activities, serve food, clean up, etc.

Volunteers needed!
The Twillingate Playground Committee is working hard to improve our community, by building a Children’s Playground and Outdoor Fitness Park. We were awarded a National Award from Let Them Be Kids to allow us to make our dreams a reality for the community. Let Them Be Kids has granted us a 50/50 split on our funding, meaning that for every $1.00 we raise, Let Them Be Kids will match it! Every $1.00 we raise gives us $2.00 of buying power for new playground and fitness equipment! We are so excited and with lots of hard work from everyone in our community we will have a safe place to get physical activity and a wonderful place to play.
Our Build Day is scheduled for August 6th, 2011. So make sure you sign up and help out with the fun filled and wonderful community event! Just click the icon to the right of the screen and fill in your details. A big thank you to all of our volunteers who have signed up so far! :)
